The Close of Monday Peeves

Posted on Mar 2, 2009 04:07:52 PM

Sorry folks, I think I’m going to stop posting Monday Peeves. Maybe I’m not as bitter as I used to be, but I’ve had a hard time coming up with topics lately! Thanks to everyone who played along–and please continue to play the Media Mix on Wednesdays.

This doesn’t mean you can’t keep up the tradition of having bitch-fests in your blogs on Mondays, though.  :-p

Today’s Topic: Free-for-All

Consider this like an open mic session of Monday Peeves. Take this chance to rant about something, anything, that has bugged you lately, and then leave a link to your rant.

Today’s Topic: Make the Voices Go Away

Whose voice can’t you stand? Name as many annoying voices as you’d like! Come on, being bitter is fun.

My answers:

  • Half the people on NPR, because their voices make me anxious. I keep waiting for the tension, and it never comes…the apocolypse would start and they’d retain the same soft, monotone, slightly morose narration.
  • More will come as I think of them…

Because a little whiny ranting is good for the health.

Today’s Theme: Going Too Far for the Little Ones

When do people go TOO far to care for their tiny tots, or pets? (E.g., water purifiers for dogs, extensive safety proofing homes for babies, etc.) As in, when does it stop being tender and start becoming a little creepy? If you want, go ahead and share a case where YOU’VE crossed this line.

Today’s Theme: Religious Peeves

Regardless of whether or not you’re personally religious, what is a religious behavior that ticks you off?

Play Monday Peeves! Either discuss this topic in your blog or pick one of your own.

This week’s topic: Smack-Worthy

Name 3 media people you want to smack, and if you want, explain why.

Mine: Ann Coulter (people have GOT to stop taking that psychobitch seriously),  Rush Limbaugh (people have GOT to stop taking that psychobitch seriously), and anyone on the Weather Channel who says “Know Before You Go” like it’s the most clever and interesting thing they thought of off the top of their head.

Today’s Topic: Pride

I’ve been watching a History Channel special on the Seven Deadly Sins, and last night’s topic was pride. So tell me, what was an instance when someone prideful got under your skin? (And if you want, name a time when YOU’VE had a little too much pride yourself.)

Today’s Topic: Grammar Peeves

Grammar Girl recently did a podcast titled Top 10 Grammer Pet Peeves of 2008.  Check out the transcript. Do you agree with any of these peeves, and do you have any of your own? Or is being so intense about grammar just silly?

My thoughts: despite my having an English degree and editorial experience, I’ve always thought that grammar rules get tiresome and just plain trivial. While my editorial side feels the need to instantly correct grammar flaws I see, I think it’s important to have an open mind about language. It’s always changing, and there’s a reason for that. People need to be adaptable and not always feel the need to stick to antiquated ideas of what language should be.

On Mondays, you can stop worrying about larger than life issues and just be petty with me. Either leave your answer as a comment or link to your blog. Go on, it feels good.

Today’s Theme: Unjustified Fuming

Name something that makes steam come out of YOUR ears, but that doesn’t seem to bother anyone else too much.

I, for instance, have very odd peeves related to mouth noises. I can’t stand it when people talk with dry mouths, or clear their throats for longer than 2 seconds at a time, or chew gum or food louder than necessary. It may mildly bug some people, but it seriously tortures me.

Beat the Monday blues by being petty with me. Either leave your answer as a comment or link to your blog.

Today’s Theme: Customer Service Woes

Most of us have had a customer service related position at some point in our lives.  I realize this topic could probably be a series, but name one time someone gave you a stupid complaint. How did you respond?

Here’s my most recent: Someone wrote a passionate letter to the generic management email listed on my company’s website.  They were fuming because they visited an online news site that we were advertising on,  and in the comment section of a news story, someone had posted an offensive comment. Our banner happened to randomly appear beside that comment, so naturally this dimwit thought WE endorsed the USER’S comment. She said we were guilty by association, and that she would forever asccosiate our brand with the horrible pain it caused her to read the comment. AND she would discourage her friends and family from ever associating with us.

Wow. It was so hard not to be condescending in my response, but I politely explained the banner rotation process, and pointed out to her that the website had already deleted the offensive comment.
